Arthritis

Arthro means joint which has a Greek origin and “itis “ means inflammation.
What happens to the joint?

Arthritis can affect big joints, and small joints or it can affect small and big joints simultaneously. It is a condition that causes inflammation, and damage in the joints, surrounding tissues, and connective tissues.

What are the symptoms of arthritis- pain, swelling, redness, stiffness, and affected mobility, some symptoms are specific to certain types of arthritis. There are more than a hundred conditions for arthritis, however generally present are osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, and psoriatic arthritis.
Causes-
Inflammatory cause- Inflammation is a healing process gifted by nature but in cases like immunological origin it sets in inflammation and causes damage to the different parts of the body including joints and its surrounding tissues e.g.psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis. Mechanical or Degenerative causes- Injury to the supporting tissues like cartilage connected at the end of bone. e.g.arthritis due to the aging process, arthritis due to obesity, due to accident or fall
Metabolic causes- By-products of affected metabolism cause initiation of inflammation at the joints and surrounding tissues. e.g. gout
Infection- Certain viruses and bacteria are responsible for the onset of inflammation in the different joints and other body parts. e.g.arthritis in Dengue, Typhoid
Connective tissue disease- inflammation of those tissues that support, connect, and separate the organs involves tendons, ligaments, and cartilage. e.g.-SLE
Treatment- Arthritis is diagnosed based on the underlying cause for the damage to the joints, and its surrounding tissues. In allopathy, over-the-counter medications are available like painkillers(analgesics) NSAIDs, local ointments, corticosteroids etc.
The homeopathic approach towards arthritis- Diagnosing the underlying cause is essential along with specific symptoms given by the patients which are very individualistic to the patient. It considers disease-specific symptoms, individual-specific symptoms, and personality specifically the mindset of the patient. This thorough data helps to find the exact remedy for the patient as well as sos remedy can be prescribed to alleviate the sever pain.

Calcaneal Spur

Calcaneal spurs are bony projections that form around the calcaneus, which is the strongest and most posterior bone in the foot. The classic symptom associated with calcaneal spurs is talalgia, commonly referred as "heel pain."
Causes: Strained foot muscles or ligaments. Running on hard surfaces. Spending extended periods on your feet. Wearing poorly fitting shoes. Being overweight or obese. The body's response to stress can lead to the development of extra bone tissue, which becomes a heel spur. Many people with heel spurs do not experience pain, but when they do, it is often similar to plantar fasciitis pain.
Symptoms: Sharp pain, often described as a knife-like sensation in the heel, especially when standing up in the morning. A dull ache in the heel that may persist throughout the day. Inflammation and swelling at the front of the heel. Heat radiating from the affected area. A small, visible bone-like protrusion under the heel.
Exercises for Calcaneal Spurs: Plantar fascia massage. Seated plantar fascia stretch. Wall calf stretch. Wall calf stretch with a bent knee. Heel raises. Towel scrunches or curls. Resisted ankle inversion.

These exercises and stretches can help alleviate some of the symptoms associated with calcaneal spurs and provide relief from heel pain. However, it's essential to consult with a healthcare professional for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan, as the severity of symptoms and the best approach to managing them can vary from person to person.

Thyroid

Many people often says I have a thyroid, but what exactly does it mean? Thyroid is a butterfly shaped gland located at the base of the neck just below the Adam’s apple. The main function of the gland is to regulate body’s metabolic rate, growth and development. What are the reasons which causes thyroid gland to behave abnormally ?? There are two types of thyroid diseases Hypothyroidism ( under-active gland )
Causes are
- Autoimmune conditions also called as Hashimoto’s disease Iodine deficiency
- Thyroid gland requires iodine to make thyroid hormone, dietary deficiency of iodine causes hypothyroidism. Congenital
- Hypothyroidism due to absence of thyroid gland or partially active gland by birth.
Symptoms of hypothyroidism -
Slower heart rate than normal
Unexplained weight gain
Feeling sensitive to cold Dry skin and coarse hair
Depressed
Tired feeling
Heavy menstrual periods

Hyperthyroidism ( overactive gland )
* Graves Disease - Autoimmune condition that causes over activity of thyroid gland, which is the most common cause of hyperthyroidism -
* Thyroid Nodules - These are abnormal lumps on thyroid gland which causes excessive production of thyroid hormone
* Excessive Iodine - Excessive amounts of iodine into body causes excessive production of thyroid hormone. For example, certain medications for heart may cause excessive iodine in your body. Thyroiditis-swelling of the thyroid gland. It typically causes temporary hyperthyroidism at first and then chronic hypothyroidism.
Postpartum thyroiditis- Rarely experienced by mothers after delivery. It causes hyperthyroidism first followed by hypothyroidism.

Symptoms of hyperthyroidism-
•Faster heart rate than normal heart rate
•unexplained weight loss
•sensitive to heat
•Difficulty in sleeping
•Nervous feeling, anxious, irritable
•clammy or sweaty skin
•irregular menstrual cycles or no menstrual cycle Homoeopathy and

Thyroid health - Homoeopathy physician will provide holistic care for the patient suffering with thyroid disease. Hypertension

Hypertension is also called as high blood pressure. The condition occurs when heart is working hard to push the blood through arteries and at the same time the force of the blood pushing against the artery walls which is invariably high.
Symptoms of the high blood pressure- Most people does not show any symptoms but headache, restlessness can be experienced by patient.

Causes The reasons for the high blood pressure depends on how much blood is pumped by the heart and how the blood is flowing through the arteries. There are two types of hypertension
Primary Hypertension- The underlying reason could be due to genetic predisposition/ make up, family history. The cause is unidentifiable and it developed gradually over the years. The clogging up or plaque formation can occur in the arteries and eventually it will contribute to the rise in blood pressure.
Secondary Hypertension- This type of hypertension due to underlying disease condition.
- Metabolic syndrome which consist of diabetes, high cholesterol levels and hypertension
-drug induced,
- structural defect in the heart or adrenal gland tumour
- birth control pills, certain drugs for cough and cold
- kidney diseases
- illegal drugs
-hormonal imbalances due to thyroid

How to understand the readings of your blood pressure
- The number which is at top shows systolic pressure that means your heart is contracting or beating and at same time pressure exerted by blood on the artery walls. The bottom number shows the diastolic pressure, when your heart is relaxing between the beats or contractions. It is measured in millimetres of Mercury (mmHg).
                       Category                 Blood Pressure
                     Normal                   Under 130/80mmHg
                     Mild                          130-139/ 80-89mmhg
                    Moderate               140/ 90mmhg or higher
Emergency / Crisis 180/120 mmhg or higher

What happen if you ignore the blood pressure-
1.You will not make essential changes in your lifestyle to live healthy life
2.Persistent high values will cause damage to the vital organs like brain, eyes and kidneys
3.Untreated high blood pressure may lead to crisis which can cause heart failure, stroke and death.
Risk factors-
- Sedentary life style
-Smoking
-Alcohol consumption
-Unhealthy Diet
- Self medication
-Unhealthy substance habits
-Obesity -Stress
